PERMANENT MAKEUP- BROWS

An advanced technique of cosmetic tattooing that is a process done by implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin with a row of micro sterile, disposable needles that form a blade shape which will produce the appearance of hair where there isn't any, or add more to enhance and create fullness where hair already exists and can last any where from 1-3 years.

Please remember that your new brows are an open wound and is a multi-step process. For the first few days, it will be darker and thicker than your healed result which takes 30 days. Some clients experience flaking, scabbing and itchiness in the first week. Once this phase has completed, it is common to experience what is called the "ghosting stage” which will be a period of time where the microblading hair strokes will seem to have disappeared. In most cases, the microblading reappears within a few days as the raw skin heals itself. After 30 days it is normal/common to have some spots where the pigment didn’t retain, at which point we do a follow up appointment to reinforce the strokes and fill in missing/faded pigment.

A touch up appointment should be scheduled 6-8 weeks after your initial microblading to reinforce pigment and it is suggested to do touch ups every 6 to 10 months to maintain the integrity of the color as the pigment will fade. If you do not return within the 10 month period it will be considered a full microblading service, not a touch up.

Because everyone's skin heals differently, the retention of pigment and longevity is impossible to predict, therefore, cannot be guaranteed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

DOES IT HURT?

Topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person, every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure. Please note you will be more sensitive on your menstrual cycle.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The pigment will last anywhere from 1-3 years. The treatment will fade over time and a touch up is required 4-8 weeks after the initial procedure then every 6-10 months.

Touch ups are needed for cosmetic tattoo procedures with each new procedure requiring 2 or more visits. Previously tattooed eyebrows may require one or two additional appointments and rarely achieve the same results to those who have no previous tattoo work because of the existing scar tissue and color under the skin, even if it isn't visible.

* Please note that final results and time frame cannot be guaranteed as each skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates.

WHAT WILL AFFECT MY NEW BROWS?

Sun exposure: The sun fades the pigment faster so sun block & hats should be your new best friends! (Besides your beautiful new brows)
The regeneration of skin cells: The longer the regeneration takes, the longer the pigment holds.
Not following aftercare instructions.
Exfoliating Acids.
Excessively Oily Skin Types.

Previous tattoo work because of the existing scar tissue and color under the skin, even if it isn't visible.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE MY PROCEDURE?

If possible, please come to your appointment with your brows filled in the way you do them daily so we can get a general feel of how you'll be comfortable with your microblading result.

If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 7 days after the procedure. Avoid any blood thinners for 24 hours prior to the appointment as well as Vitamin E, Aspirin, pre workout and alcohol.

If you prefer a polished brow you can come with them shaped (threaded/ waxed); please do this at least 3 days prior to your appointment.

CAN I BRING A GUEST TO MY APPOINTMENT?

You are more than welcome to bring one friend or family member with you to your appointment, however the county Health Department does not permit infants/toddlers or pets as client's open skin and blood are exposed.

HOW WILL I LOOK IMMEDIATELY AFTER?

Great! A lot of people think they will leave red and swollen but microblading doesn't typically cause swelling as it is less invasive than a tattoo. You may feel your new brows look darker with some redness and thicker than expected for the first few days. Color will gradually soften in color and shrink slightly in size during the complete healing process (30 days).

IF I'VE HAD MICROBLADING/PMU FROM ANOTHER ARTIST CAN I GET AN APPOINTMENT?

Please send a photo of your eyebrows makeup free and in natural lighting to holler@DanaShalene.com or via text (650) 273-6701 PRIOR to booking an appointment as deposits are non- refundable.

If your brows are too pigmented to work on, it is suggested to use an exfoliating acid such as glycolic or lactic acid 2-3 times a week to fade the previous tattoo quicker or a removal may be needed to lighten the pigment.

BEFORE-CARE BEHAVIOR

  • 48 hours: Avoid blood thinners (Aspirin, Vitamin E, Niacin, Ibuprofen, Alcohol

  • 3 days: Avoid waxing/ threading, excessive sun exposure

  • 1 week: Avoid omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil)

  • 2 weeks: Avoid any chemical exfoliants/ facials/ peels/ botox (recommend after microblading to balance as much as possible without the lifting the brows)

AFTER-CARE BEHAVIOR

  • Do not touch or rub the healing pigmented area as this can create an infection.

  • For the next 10 days, morning and night, use a pump of the Cosmetic InkSoap on a non-woven cloth (provided) and gently wipe in the direction of the brow hairs. Rinse the cloth with cool water and gently wipe your brows after cleansing. You can either air dry or pat them with a paper towel to dry.

  • Please wash your brows outside of the shower and try to refrain from submerging your brows in water while showering.

  • Apply a thin layer of MIEL healing balm (provided) or coconut/ grapeseed oil AS NEEDED with a clean cotton swab anytime your brows feel dry/itchy/flakey.

  • Do not apply makeup to the brow area for 10-14 days and when you do, please ensure your makeup brushes/pencils are sanitized.

  • No sun exposure, saunas, swimming, working out or heavy sweating for two weeks.

  • Do not get botox injections until your brows are fully healed in 30 days.

  • Do not attempt to remove or pick at any scabbing, please allow the skin to heal itself as this can cause loss of pigment, unsatisfactory results and/or serious infection.

  • After your brows have fully healed, maintain pigment retention by using sunblock daily on brow area.

  • Products that contain glycolic, lactic, AHA and retinol acids will fade your pigment faster over time.

  • If you are a blood donor, do not give blood for one year following your microblading procedure.

  • If you experience any swelling, blistering or puss, discontinue your aftercare product and contact a doctor. In addition, if you experience any excessive redness, tenderness or red streaks from the brow to your heart, elevated temperature or drainage from the brow, consult a doctor as the area may be infected.

*Coconut or grapeseed oils are great for microblading healing because they are thinner than ointments (such as aquaphor) so they do not suffocate the wound or draw out pigment. You should use the oil as needed if your skin feels dry, tight, itchy, uncomfortable or severely scabbed, but if you do not experience these symptoms you do not need to use the oil as your skin will heal itself naturally. Because every person's individual skin type differs, we ask you to use the oil "as needed" unless you have an allergy or intolerance to the product.
